Podcast: Parenting Your "Nearly Flown" JUST. GOT. EASIER.
Lessons From The Kitchen?
It's been right under our parent noses since . . . well. . . they were born.
We parents search high and low for ways to impart wisdom to our "nearly grown and almost gone" kids. The "do your homework or else" and "what, you haven't begun studying yet" and "mom, that class has nothing to do with what I will need when I am out on my own" are spoken far and wide in so many households.
Today's podcast while genius in its simplicity, will drive home lessons in: (see link at top)
Here at JellyGeneration we've covered investing, debt/credit, careers, college prep moves just to name a small few. But this podcast marries the practical with the academic. What will you end up with? Lessons From The...
Podcast: Parenting Your "Nearly Flown" JUST. GOT. EASIER.
That "free" time your "nearly grown" will have for a few weeks is almost here.
Maybe they have a part time job. Maybe they will sleep late. Maybe they will spend time with friends.
But this gift of time is valuable.
Allow me to introduce you to a concept that you've probably already used in raising your "mini-you". But let's give it a title: "Stair-Step Learning"
At the core of what we parents do? We slowly transfer control and power, sprinkled with wisdom and education . . . to our kids. The end result? Hopefully a better prepared adult than we were, right?
So, back to this "free time" they are about to have.
In this podcast we cover 2 BIG Parent moves (see above )
Podcast #P35: "Well, I missed THAT". Listen:
CHAOS. Yes, CHAOS.
Information comes at us faster than a car in the Indy 500 Race.
Think that happens to your "nearly grown"? Of course. That's why I use the word - CHAOS.
Their brains go into overload. How can they learn to synthesize what they hear, see, and read? It's crucial, absolutely crucial for the to master this skill as they progress into adulthood. It's a need our kids *hopefully* use every day. But do they do it well?
Have you ever heard: "Mom, I didn't hear that" OR "Dad, I just didn't have that in my notes? OR "That was in the textbook and I didn't put those points together."
As they move into high school, or college, or their first job - having a synthesizing skill just might be the very leg they use to keep moving forward in life.
In this...
You probably don't realize it. I didn't either. Since the upheaval of our time structure this season, we have lost crucial time anchors.
We've relied on those "anchors" for years. Our "nearly grown" kids? Many of them basically have only known these types of time anchors.
But there is a way to focus in on how to right your ship (and your "nearly grown" child's as well.
In this podcast: (see at the top)
(see podcast above)
Regardless of the time of year, every parent will recognize this:
"Twas the Night Before . . . (Christmas, Summer, Fall) Break and ALL thru the house not a student was stirring, not even a mouse."
Yes, this happened at my house, too. I wanted them to have a bit of downtime, but I also wanted to keep them on a growth pattern.
Today, more than ever, ever, our kids need to build their "edge".
Let's reframe how we look at those amazing "break" days and get starting on their "edge".
The gifts of days free of traditional school are just as described . . . gifts. Those days don't come to we parents, of course. So how can we help our kids capitalize on those day-gifts?
Whether to earn extra money, to get ahead, to catch up, to add nuggets to their resume, it IS the perfect time to allow downtime AND sneak in that all important growing and learning we want them to have.
This podcast comes to the...
An edge. Everyone needs one - including your "nearly grown" child.
Why? In today's computer tech world, adults your child needs to influence and impress have seen just about everything. Information all becomes a "blurr".
That "blurr" is white noise and is easily tuned out.
But the good news? There are ways to identify and create unique ways to stand out. This huge need begins in high school and travels with them right through college or that first job . . . and truth be told . . . beyond.
Where will they need to stand out?
Resumes, interviews, peer groups, organizations, and even within their classes at school.
This podcast (top of this article) you will learn:
You can help your...
You think your teen (ok, you hope) your teen has been recording all the wonderful skills and accomplishments they have earned and achieved. On top of that, you trust your child has kept ALL the proof/documentation they will ever need. Rest assured, they will need them - many times over.
And then . . . high school, or college, or that 1st job starts. There are now 1000 things they need to do each day. Of course, you are beyond busy, too.
Then it happens. That 1st deadline. They not only need skills and documentation for a resume or application, but the deadline looms. And your ever-prepared "nearly grown"? Well, not so much. But this scenario does not have to happen.
What if your child (and not you) had prepared ahead, had all their "bragging" ready, and secondarily built up self-confidence by seeing their accomplishments? You are in the right spot to learn how.
By the end of...
The upcoming test . . .
Grades . . . friends . . .

YIKES. Where can we buy them a "Super Teen Cape"?
OVERWHELM can lead to procrastination, stress, misguided decisions and so much more.
In this podcast episode, learn 3 techniques that are here to the rescue.
They aren't a "superman cape", but they are close. In fact, these 3 things will serve them well as they navigate that last season with you AND turn into pure gold as they navigate life without you.
[2:46] Point 1: Patterns and Structure - Help them create THEIR structure using this simple step. It will automatically elevate the power of "NO" and the power of "I'll think about that tomorrow!"
[6:22] Point 2: Cue the Habits & Small Successes - Teach your kids this "science experiment" and watch them take advantage of habits. Yes, they can train their brain to experience success.
[11:34] Point 3:...
Talk about anxiety. And if we parents were to talk out loud about this, many a parent would admit the same thing.
You CAN help your teen experience a bit of their future right now. It reduces anxiety and gets them excited about the moment after getting that diploma.
